Mr Wilson’s initial surgical training, in Nottingham and Derby, was followed by two years of complex vascular surgery and angioplasty at Newcastle and Adelaide, Australia. Mr Wilson has been a Consultant Vascular Surgeon since 2011.

Mr Wilson's vascular research was published by the American Heart Association and the European Vascular Society. He was awarded the Founder's Prize and the Academic and Research Prize by the Vascular Society of Great Britain and scholarships by the Australian and Japanese Vascular Societies.

Mr Wilson is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and a Member of Vascular Surgical Society of Great Britain and the British Society of Endovascular Therapy.
