Minor Injuries & Illness Unit (MIIU) refurbishment

A big thank you to everyone who supported us to make it happen.

As a charitable independent healthcare provider, and charity, we must pay for capital projects ourselves, and we are only able to do this through fundraising which means that every donation we receive no matter how big or small, makes a real difference.

Last year’s phenomenal fundraising campaign was an overwhelming success, raising over £71,500 which allowed us to refurbish and upgrade our MIIU. Your efforts have allowed us to develop the original single bay facility to two treatment bays, a triage bay and an additional eye examination bay, as well as a plaster room and a dedicated children’s wait area. We have purchased a new patient trolley and will be buying other new items, including plaster room equipment and ECG/observation machines.

Our washroom facilities have been upgraded with a Disability Discrimination Act compliant door designed and installed to facilitate easy access and use for individuals with disabilities, and the MIIU has been decorated throughout. We were lucky enough to secure the talents of local Stroud artist Brandon Higgins of Brandon’s Murals who designed and painted two unique, sensory murals covering an entire wall in both the adult and children’s wait areas. A Tesco Community Award also enabled us to buy two iPads and new equipment for the children’s area to keep our smaller patients distracted and relaxed during their time with us.

Your extraordinary support has allowed us to recruit additional qualified Emergency Nurse and Care Practitioners, Nurse Prescribers, and a Paediatric Nurse to enhance our team and develop our MIIU skill set. Last year, our MIIU treated 2,236 patients but now, with the bigger team and improved facility, we have the potential to double patient capacity. We will be able to give more patients the urgent care they need closer to home.

As part of the MIIU refurbishment, we have also introduced extended opening hours of 8.30am-6pm, Monday to Friday. Please remember our last walk-in patient availability is at 5.30pm. On-site parking is available and free for patients.

To find out more about what we can and can’t treat, please see our Minor Injury and Illness Unit page for more information.

We truly appreciate your help in making our fundraiser a success. We could not future-proof our facilities and continue to deliver clinical excellence and outstanding patient care without you.

Please accept our heartfelt thanks for your continuing support and dedication to Tetbury Hospital Trust.
